Lab has written & directed films for Film London, BBC Writersroom, B3 Media for the UK Film Council and the BFI. His short film My Dad the Communist was singled out by the UK Film Council as one of the standout films of the year. His debut feature film Nine Dead Gay Guys starred Steven Berkoff and was hailed by the Observer as “the most shocking film at the Cannes Film Festival”. Lab’s most recent film is a collaboration with producer Chi Thai. Their film Automat was commissioned by the SKY ARTS 50 strand and examines the plight of immigrant workers in a large U.K. distribution centre.

Chi works across features, documentary, animation and immersive. She has been a Cannes Lions finalist three times and her work has screened at BAFTA & Academy accredited festivals. Chi is part of the Guiding Lights alumnus and was listed in Creative England’s Top 50 companies. Recent credits include IF, a VR180 film commissioned by Google, and Little Miss Sumo, the first ever documentary about female sumo wrestling, commissioned by Film London & co-funded by Tribeca & ESPN. Her ambition is to dismantle the conditions that marginalise stories and storytellers, especially those from the East Asian diaspora. She is a cofounder of BEATS, an advocacy group which lobbies for equality for British East Asians working in film, television and theatre.

Ming’s work crosses TV, film, theatre and radio. She has written for EastEndersCasualty, Heartbeat and The Bill and co-created the series McCready & Daughter. Her radio credits include The Things We Never Said, which won Best Radio Drama at the Writers’ Guild Awards 2018, and Male Order, for BBC Radio 4's Riot Girls season. She has written two shorts for LAMDA, Schlaf Night and Twenty-Four Hours; her play Exhumation was workshopped at the Royal Court, and her live audio drama Citizens of Nowhere premiered at the Southbank Centre in 2018. Ming began her career as Script Executive at Zenith Productions, participated in BFI/Bird’s Eye View Filmonomics 2016, and is Writer in Residence at Theatr Clwyd, summer 2019.
